The Crafting Community Project in the greater Kensington area formally launched in summer 2020. To date we have held meetings and presentations with over 20 organizational, congregational, and civic partners, and formed the CCP Kensington Advisory Group which meets monthly to make CCP decisions and guide the initiative. In February and March 2021 we sent surveys to local partners and community members, and after tallying the 50 community votes, we identified the Kensington Cooks, Grows, and Serves initiative as the Community Art Project!

Kensington Cooks, Grows, and Serves is a series of online and (select) in-person events exploring food systems and growing cross-cultural and interfaith connections in the neighborhood. Throughout the Summer and Fall of 2021, Interfaith Philadelphia, our partners, and community members will delve into the intersections of food, faith, and community, engaging the food production process: from planting and harvesting, to distribution and cooking, to food-based cultural traditions and religious rituals.

Events may include (but not be limited to) a Community Planter Paint Day in partnership with Philadelphia Scenic Works, Storytelling Workshops with Kensington Voice and Norris Square Neighborhood Project, a Community Cookbook project led by the Free Libraries in the Kensington area, and a Community Cook-Off/outdoor meal. We will also be hosting several virtual community trainings and conversations, such as our previous Difficult Conversations Training and Community Conversations gatherings.

Please check regularly below, for updates on the events and programs being offered in Kensington.  And if you are a neighborhood resident, community group, or other potential collaborator, please get in touch with our team.  We would love to partner with you!
