Living the Promise Through Passport to Understanding
As we mark the semiquincentennial—250 years since the founding ideals that shaped our nation—we are invited not only to remember the promise of religious freedom, but to practice it.
Interfaith Philadelphia’s Passport to Understanding program brings this living legacy to life. Through its core invitations—be curious, venture out, welcome in, stand tall, and stand with—participants explore religious freedom not as an abstract principle, but as a set of everyday actions that strengthen our shared civic life.
From exploring faiths different from our own, to listening deeply across difference, to standing with neighbors whose religious freedoms are challenged today, Passport to Understanding connects history to the present moment. These practices echo the original vision of religious liberty as something active, relational, and deeply human.
This special offering of Passport to Understanding, part of Religious Freedom: Then & Now, invites us to reflect on how far we have come—and how our choices today continue to shape the future of religious freedom. By cultivating curiosity, courage, hospitality, and solidarity, in community with others, Passport to Understanding offers a meaningful way to honor this milestone year: not just by celebrating freedom, but by living it. Please join this community learning experience.
