Board Member
Bart I. Mellits is the former Chair of Ballard Spahr’s national Real Estate Department consisting of more than 120 attorneys nationwide. With more than 40 years of experience, Bart has achieved the highest ranking (Band 1) in Pennsylvania by Chambers and Partners. Across the country, Bart represents developers, owners, and institutions in a wide range of real estate projects including industrial and logistics centers, retail centers and malls, transportation centers, research parks and hotels and multi-family mixed-use projects. Closer to home, Bart has been involved in some of Philadelphia’s most notable projects from new Center City office towers to important innovation and life science research centers in University City. Bart is dedicated to pro bono work having successfully guided several not-for-profit organizations to achieve their goals in obtaining new facilities to carry out their mission.
Bart has served on the firm’s Elected Board for several years and has been deeply involved in many facets of firm management. Most recently, Bart formed and leads a Business Resource Group at the firm dedicated to supporting the Jewish community and their allies at the firm. Bart is a cum laude graduate of Georgetown University holding a B.A. in Government and a graduate of the National Law Center at The George Washington University where he served on the Journal of International Law and Economics. Bart started his legal career in New York City where he was set up on a blind date that must have gone well- they married and eventually moved back to Philly where he and his wife happily raised three children and several dogs.
