Under the supervision of its pastor, Dr. Joseph Stafford, the Heavenly Hall Gospel Temple runs several outreach programs that benefit members of the Philadelphia community. Dr. Stafford has been a police chaplain since 1992, and hosts cookouts at their Mantua facility where community members mingle and then have a q and a with a representative of the police force. Dr. Stafford hosts monthly meetings for block captains in the 16th and 19th Police Districts who work with police and other civic officials to solve problems facing their neighborhoods. These efforts have been instrumental in reducing conflict and violence in the neighborhood and have created greater understanding between members of the community and the police force. In addition, Heavenly Hall offers on the job training programs for folks recovering from addiction and for single parents.

The Corporation related to the church owns several houses near the church building that house low-income residents, as well as a group home in North Philadelphia for seniors facing mental or physical challenges as they transition to permanent housing. The Free Library of Philadelphia has a “hot spot” in one of Heavenly Hall’s buildings, offering computer classes and technology training free of charge for the community. Heavenly Hall runs a daycare facility which is integrated with their job training program and offers low-income families the opportunity to receive childcare while they work. A third location in East Mt Airy Houses the Shop: Help and Hope Community Development Center and Banquet Hall, offering a variety of services. The diversity and broad scope of programs run by Heavenly Hall, all of which contribute to a more peaceful and compassionate city for Philadelphians, is the reason why this organization is an exemplary Zone of Peace.
