About the event
The program will begin with a guided meditation on contemporary works of art from the museum’s Asian Art Collection. Next, each participant will find a work that speaks to them and spend time contemplating it. We will end with a visit to each work selected and discuss its impact with the one who selected it.
The guided meditation will feature six large, blue and white, traditional-looking plates that were created in 2017 by the avant-garde Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. On closer inspection, they address global crises in our time: they contain images of War, Ruins, Journey, Crossing the Sea, Refugee Camps, and Demonstrations.
Due to copyright issues, an image cannot be shown here, but you may preview the plates here.
The Art of Interfaith Understanding tours explore the intersection of art and faith.
Facilitated by Rev. John B. Hougen, PhD, Volunteer Docent at the PMA
Held in partnership with the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Division for Community Engagement with tours at the museum.
