Elexus Freeman-Filmore

(she/her)
Youth Programs Manager

Elexus’ position as the Youth Programs Manager allows her to fuse her strong faith and her love of working with youth in various communities.

As a student at Hampton University, Elexus could be found mentoring middle and high school girls in the Hampton Roads Virginia area.

After completing her education, Elexus returned to her native Philadelphia, and obtained a position with YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School through AmeriCorps. YouthBuild gives adults ages 18-21 the opportunity to earn their high school diploma. While at YouthBuild, Elexus combined her strong planning and leadership skills to assist over 200 students to graduate.

Elexus is a professionally trained classical ballet dancer, and although she has hung up her pointe shoes she continues to impact her community by teaching classical ballet and jazz to African American students who might not otherwise have access to the classical art form. Continuing with her love of children her students range in age from 3-15 years old.

Elexus has used her strong Christian faith throughout her life. As a teenager Elexus participated in Vacation Bible School, Junior Missionaries, Youth Choir and the Praise Dance Ministry.
Growth in her faith and continual community building is an unceasing goal for Elexus. She strives to create avenues of learning about cultures, and acceptance for young people of all backgrounds.
