Lance J. Sussman served as Senior Rabbi at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park, PA, from 2001–2022. As an active Rabbi Emeritus, he continues to write, teach, speak, and serve the community.
Rabbi Sussman, Ph.D. is both a rabbi and a scholar. A specialist in American Jewish history, Sussman is the author of Isaac Leeser and the Making of American Judaism. Recently he completed a trilogy with his writing partner Lynda Barness of his collected sermons and essays.
They have several forthcoming works about Rabbi Joseph Krauskopf, Rabbi Bertram W. Korn, Gershom Seixas, and Becoming Americans: Jews and the Military Struggle for a New Nation.
Sussman currently serves as the Memoirs Section Editor of the Southern Jewish Historical Society’s Journal and a Vice President of the Philadelphia Board of Rabbis. He has taught at Princeton, SUNY–Binghamton, and Hunter College.
