This winter and spring, more than 40 women from multiple religious, ethnic, and racial backgrounds participated in, Visionary Women, an intergenerational five-month program that explored the intersection of faith, gender, and social justice through panels and small-group discussions.
Sessions were held at the Won Institute of Graduate Studies, Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Old Haverford Friends, and Congregation Adath Jeshurun.
“One of the most impactful aspects of participating in Visionary Women, for me, was getting to connect with a diverse group of women in my small group. I was always excited and eager to hear their thoughts, and felt like mine were appreciated as well. In one small group, I had asked one woman from a Won Buddhist background about balancing her faith with the demands of a western capitalist society. She shared that it was a struggle, something that she sees reflected in her daily actions, citing that in Won Buddhism, you can learn a lot about someone from how they spend their money and their time. That has stuck with me, and remains something I reflect on often.” – Rachael Hickson
We will launch a new Visionary Women series in January 2026 at five sites in the Greater Philadelphia area!
