SUMMARY:The Impact of William Penn and His Holy Experiment: Then and Now
DESCRIPTION:\n\nRSVP HERE\n\nAfter more than 250 years, what are William Penn’s enduring contributions? How did Penn’s Quaker values inform his understanding? Where did the Holy Experiment succeed and where did it fall short? What would Penn make of Philadelphia, his “Greene Country Towne,” today? \nWe gather at the historic Arch Street Friends Meeting House to delve into these questions with Penn scholars and historians. \nEvent attendees are invited to join the Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia for their Walking Series at 9:30 AM and/or Meeting for Worship at 10:30 AM. Following worship, lunch will be held in the East Room, and the Interfaith Philadelphia panel will begin at 1 PM in the West Room.\nThis event is a collaborative partnership between the Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia and Arch Street Meeting House Preservation Trust.\nThis program is part of the Religious Freedom: Then & Now initiative.\n\n\n About Arch Street Meeting House Preservation Trust\nArch Street Meeting House [historicasmh.org], built in 1804, is a National Historic Landmark, museum, and active place of Quaker worship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The meetinghouse is a living symbol of Quaker history, values, and contributions to American democracy. Deeded by William Penn in 1701 as a burial ground for the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Arch Street Meeting House has had an estimated 20,000 burials within its historic grounds. The museum strives to share the stories of Quakers and their contributions to both the founding of Pennsylvania and U.S. history.  \nArch Street Meeting House Preservation Trust preserves, operates, and interprets the meeting house and grounds which will serve to increase public understanding of the impact and continued relevance of Quakers and Quaker history.\nIn 2011, Arch Street Meeting House became a National Historic Landmark and the Arch Street Meeting House Preservation Trust was formed. These two actions allowed Arch Street to commit to preserving Arch Street Meeting House and welcome the public in for programming to learn more about Quaker history. The Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia still actively worship in the space, but do not maintain it.\nAbout the Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia\nThe Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia (MMFP), also known as Arch Street Friends, is Philadelphia’s oldest Quaker community and has worshipped since 1682. MMFP offers unprogrammed Meeting for Worship twice a week to gather as Friends in silent worship. Join us on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am in person, or on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm on Zoom. Visit archstreetfriends.org for more information.\n \n\n\n

Participants need only curiosity and enthusiasm; no specialized language skills or historical knowledge are required.\nParticipants are also invited to view the Rosenbach’s Treasures: History & Literature of the Americas gallery as part of this program.\nFacilitators\nJudith M. SUMMARY:Celebrating 250 Years of Religious Freedom!
DESCRIPTION:\n\nJoin us at the National Constitution Center to celebrate religious freedom then and now as we honor our historic congregations and all participants in our yearlong observance of the Semiquincentennial.\nAs 2026 comes to an end, we are left with probing questions: What are the challenges facing religious freedom today? How can we live into the promise of pluralistic democracy? What will ready us to reach out to our neighbors of different faiths and worldviews? How can we truly dare to understand? Join us for a panel discussion featuring community, civic, and religious leaders who will speak on these topics.\nView the exhibition Pennsylvania’s Founding: How a City and a Colony Shaped America’s Civic DNA from 5:30 to 6:00 pm, followed by A Conversation on Religious Freedom panel discussion, moderated by Vince Stango, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Constitution Center. The event will also include the unveiling of a Religious Freedom Digital Quilt and sharing of impactful moments from 2026.\n\n\nThis program is part of the Religious Freedom: Then & Now initiative.\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Practice Curiosity: How to ask better questions, notice assumptions, and learn across faith traditions
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\n\nCuriosity is an essential starting point for meaningful connection across differences. In this introductory course, you’ll explore the skills and practices that help us approach conversations about faith, identity, and lived experience with greater awareness and openness. Together, we’ll examine how the language we use shapes understanding, how the same words can hold different meanings for different people, and what makes a question thoughtful, respectful, and genuinely curious.\nWhat you will learn:\n\nDevelop greater awareness of language and assumptions by exploring how the words and terms we use can carry different meanings, histories, and experiences for different people.\nStrengthen your ability to ask thoughtful questions by considering how questions can invite openness, create connection, or unintentionally create barriers.\nPractice the art of curious inquiry through opportunities to develop and refine questions that communicate respect, openness, and a genuine desire to understand.\nDeepen your self-awareness and understanding of others by recognizing that learning across differences is not only about discovering someone else’s perspective—it is also an opportunity to reflect on your own experiences, assumptions, and ways of seeing the world.\n\nWhether you are beginning a journey of religious understanding, working in a diverse community, or simply seeking to become a more curious neighbor, this course offers practical tools you can begin using right away.\n\n\nEarn a Certificate in Religious Literacy and Interfaith Engagement\nThe Certificate in Religious Literacy and Interfaith Engagement equips professionals, educators, nonprofit leaders, clergy, healthcare providers, and others with the knowledge and skills to better understand the religious beliefs, practices, and traditions that shape our world. This program is essential for those wanting to navigate conversations, relationships, and workplaces across faith differences with confidence and respect.\nTo earn the Certificate in Religious Literacy and Interfaith Engagement, register for one Practice Curiosity session and a minimum of five Everyday Faith sessions.\nPractice Curiosity (Choose 1)\n\nPractice Curiosity – September 23, 2026 ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/practice-curiosity-2026/ )\nPractice Curiosity – January 13, 2027 ( http://nterfaithphiladelphia.org/events/practice-curiosity-2027/ )\n\nEveryday Faith (Choose at Least 5)\n\nThursday, September 3, 4:00-5:30 — Judaism ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/everyday-faith-judaism-and-high-holy-days/ )\n\nThursday, October 22, 4:00–5:30 PM — Hinduism ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/everyday-faith-hinduism/ )\n\n\nWednesday, November 11, 4:00–5:30 PM — Indigenous Traditions ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/everyday-faith-indigenous-traditions/ )\n\n\nThursday, December 10, 4:00–5:30 PM — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/everyday-faith-the-church-of-jesus-christ-of-latter-day-saints/ )\n\n\nWednesday, January 27, 4:00–5:30 PM — Islam ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/everyday-faith-islam/ )\n\n\nWednesday, February 24, 4:00–5:30 PM — Christianity ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/everyday-faith-christianity/ )\n\n\nThursday, March 18, 4:00–5:30 PM — Buddhism ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/buddhist-holy-days-2026/ )\n\n\nThursday, April 15, 4:00–5:30 PM — Paganism ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/everyday-faith-paganism/ )\n\nWednesday, May 12, 4:00–5:30 PM — Quakerism ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/everyday-faith-quakerism/ )\n\nEARN YOUR CERTIFICATE\n\n \n

SUMMARY:Everyday Faith: Buddhist Traditions
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\n\nEveryday Faith is an interactive workshop series designed to help you build a more generous, practical understanding of the diverse ways people live and practice their faith — or no faith at all — every single day.\nIn a world that often pushes us toward quick judgments and polarization, Everyday Faith invites you to slow down, get curious, and engage with the complex ways religion, spirituality, and worldview shape our daily lives.\nYou’ll explore how faith, spirituality, and worldviews influence aspects of life such as:\n\nLife cycle events — from births and weddings to funerals\nHoliday celebrations — and how people observe them differently\nFood and clothing practices — understanding religious and cultural significance\nHistory in our region — origin and growth of the faith community\nWorkplace conversations — navigating faith and identity in professional settings\n\nThrough these insights, you’ll gain practical tools to better understand and respectfully engage with people of diverse religious, spiritual, and secular identities.\nWhy Religious Literacy Matters\nUnderstanding religion and worldview diversity is more important than ever — especially in workplaces, schools, and civic life. Religious literacy helps us challenge assumptions, break down stereotypes, and build meaningful relationships across lines of difference. Everyday Faith gives you the skills, confidence, and personal insight to navigate a diverse world with empathy and respect.\nThe Living Library: Real People, Real Understanding\nA signature feature of the Everyday Faith experience is the Living Library — a unique opportunity to engage directly with individuals from a variety of faiths, spiritual paths, and worldviews. Just like checking out a book, you’ll “check out” a person and have a one-on-one or small group conversation where you can ask questions, hear personal stories, and explore perspectives that might be unfamiliar to you.\nCost: The suggested price of this program is $50 with a sliding scale of $25-$125. Click here ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/slide-scale-fee-structure/ ) for more information on how to determine the cost that is right for you.\nLook out for registration for these other sessions in the Everyday Faith series!\n\n\nThursday, September 3, 4:00–5:30 PM — Judaism and High Holy Days\n\nThursday, October 22, 4:00–5:30 PM — Hinduism\n\nWednesday, November 11, 4:00–5:30 PM — Indigenous Traditions\n\n\nThursday, December 10, 4:00–5:30 PM — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints\n\n\nWednesday, January 27, 4:00–5:30 PM — Islam\n\n\nWednesday, March 18, 4:00–5:30 PM — Buddhism\n\n\nThursday, April 15, 4:00–5:30 PM — Paganism\n\n\nWednesday, May 12, 4:00–5:30 PM — Quakerism\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCertificate in Religious Literacy and Interfaith Engagement\nTo earn the certificate, participants must complete the fundamental course, Practice Curiousity, plus 5 Everday Faith sessions (listed above). Practice Curiousity is also offered on September 23, 2026 ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/practice-curiosity-2026/ ) and January 13, 2027 ( https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/events/practice-curiosity-2027/ ), 4:00-5:30 PM.\nEARN YOUR CERTIFICATE\n\n \n \n
