SUMMARY:Toll the Bell
DESCRIPTION:Toll the Bell is a city-wide sound installation bringing greater awareness to the gun violence epidemic affecting our city and the nation.\nIn the wake of historic surges in gun-related crime, community-based violence prevention initiatives are making a notable impact. Since 2021, Philadelphia has seen a 45% reduction in gun violence victims, yet the crisis persists, and further action is needed. Toll the Bell aims to amplify this critical balance, highlighting the vital progress made and creating space for the hope that fuels continued change.\nOn June 5, National Gun Violence Awareness Day, a prolonged period of bell ringing and other sound-making will take place at 40+ locations across the city and beyond. A collaboration with Penn’s Office of the Chaplain, Interfaith Philadelphia and many faith-based organizations and other partners, the sound installation will be paired with an interfaith vigil service and a community walk of reflection.\nToll the Bell is not a profile of tragedy; it is a resounding call to action — a literal ringing of the bell — urging us to work towards transformative change for the future of our city.\nJune 5\nInterfaith Vigil Service\n12:15 PM | Annenberg Center\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\nChristopher Gruits, Penn Live Arts Executive & Artistic Director\nRev. SUMMARY:The Future Faces of Religious Freedom: A Children’s Program to Celebrate Religious Diversity
DESCRIPTION:\n\nRSVP HERE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a joyful, family-friendly interfaith experience designed especially for children ages 10 and under. Hosted by Society Hill Synagogue ( https://www.societyhillsynagogue.org/ ) and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church ( https://www.stpetersphila.org/ ), this special program is part of Interfaith Philadelphia’s year-long Religious Freedom: Then & Now series.\nThrough stories, play, and creative expression, children will explore different religious traditions. The event is designed to be engaging, welcoming, and accessible by inviting curiosity, questions, and connection.\nA faith leader from a different tradition will lead a lively storytime, reading children’s books that celebrate diversity, interfaith friendship, and belonging. Children and their families can ask questions and learn more about the leader’s faith and role in their community.\nBetween storytimes, children can explore interactive activity stations at their own pace:\n\nSensory Exploration: Dig into hands-on bins filled with meaningful objects and images from different faiths, with volunteers on hand to share their significance.\nCommunity Art Project: Contribute to a collaborative art installation celebrating identity and belonging. Each child will create their own piece—reflecting what makes their community stronger—which will come together into a larger work of art.\n\nThis event offers a playful and meaningful introduction to interfaith understanding.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
